Ellyse Perry has made history. She is now Australia Women leading run-scorer in Women’s Tests. The record was achieved on the second day of the one-off Test against India Women held at the WACA Stadium in Perth on Saturday, March 7. Perry’s 76-run knock made her the second player to reach the mark of 1000 career runs for Australia surpassing former captain Karen Rolton’s record of 1002 runs.

Perry had made her Test debut against England in 2008, in which she scored 21 runs off 77 balls. In 15 Tests matches that she has played for the team, she is currently with a record of 1006 runs including two centuries and a high score of 213* which she scored against England and is also the third highest individual score in Tests. Her brilliance also extends to the bowling side as the all-rounder also has picked up 39 wickets at an average of 21.82 including her best performance of 6/32 also achieved against England.
Australia Women started their innings on Day 2 from the 28th over with the score of 96/3. Adding 227 runs they ended their innings at 323 runs all-out. Both Perry and Sutherland started the strike after going undefeated on Day 1. While Perry ended up making the record, Sutherland registered her third consecutive century in the series and fourth of her Test career scoring 129 runs off 171 balls. Together with Perry, she built up a partnership of 128 runs.
Meanwhile, India ended their innings on Day 2 at 105/6 and are trailing by 20 runs. Pratika Rawal remains with 43 runs and Sneh Rana with 14 remain undefeated. Australia’s Lucy Hamilton picked three more wickets taking her tally to six wickets, while Sutherland picked up two more and Brown added one. Earlier on Day 1, India was bowled out for 198 in the first innings through Jemimah Rodrigues 52 runs off 84 balls.
