India’s campaign at the ongoing 2026 Badminton Asia Championships is currently in a bit of a struggle. Malvika Bansod lost her match to Thailand’s Busanan Ongbamrungphan in the first round match.

Meanwhile, two-time Olympic medalist PV Sindhu keeps the contingent alive after defeating her Malaysian opponent at the Ningbo Olympic Sports Centre in China.
In her campaign, India’s Vansod was beaten by Thailand’s Ongbamrungphan in sets of 10-21, 19-21 in a 41-minute match. She is now exited from the championship run.
India’s star shuttler Sindhu survived a hard-fought battle in the first round against Ling Ching Wong of Malaysia. She defeated her in sets of 15-21, 21-11, 21-19 in a match that lasted an hour and seven minutes. In the deciding game, Sindhu won the last three consecutive points and edged past the young Wong.
With the win, Sindhu will next face second seed Wang Zhi Yin in the pre-quarterfinals clash. The two are currently with a win-loss record of 3-3 in their past meetups. On the other hand, India’s Tanvi Sharma has also bowed out after losing her first round match.
Elsewhere, in India’s men’s singles matches, HS Prannoy secured a win in straight games over Hal Dang Nguyen in sets of 24-22, 21-12. Meanwhile, Lakshya Sen, and Kidambi Srikanth have lost their campaign in the first round. Lakshya lost to Hong Kong’s Lee Cheuk Yiu by sets of 12-21, 19-21.
