India Women Crash Out of Uber Cup After 0-5 Defeat to China

On Monday, April 27, Indian women’s team ended their campaign of the 2026 Uber Cup in Horsens, Denmark. The team lost their final group tie against defending champions China. A win would have confirmed their qualification in quarterfinals but the 16-time champions ended up in advantage. In the game against China, India failed to offer much resistance and ended up losing all of their five matches in the tie. They finished third in the group.

In the first match of the final group stage, India women’s ace shuttler PV Sindhu set up a good fight against world No. 2 Wang Zhi Yi but fell short in sets of 16-21, 21-19, 19-21. The two-time Olympic medalist led the last game by 18-15 but Wang made a strong comeback to take the lead by 21-19 and China won the game by 1-0.

Following that, India’s young doubles pair of Priya Konjengbam and Shruti Mishra lost their game to Liu Sheng Siu and An Ning. Playing the first doubles match of the day, they lost by sets of 11-21, 8-21.

Meanwhile, Olympic champion Chen Yu Fei emerged from a hard-fought game against India’s Isharani Baruah to win in straight games by 22-20, 21-13. India’s doubles pair of Tanisha Crasto and Kavipriya Selvam, and women’s singles player Devika Sihag, suffered three-game defeats. They earlier faced their defeat to Denmark.

India suffered their group stage exit after eight years, since their last loss in the 2018 Uber Cup. On the other hand, the Indian men’s team have confirmed their spot in the quarterfinals. Earlier in the day, the men’s team secured their second consecutive group win against Australia.
