Ashmita Chaliha returned to the game in May, after a three-month break due to injury. She defeated Korea’s Kim Min Sun in 37 minutes, 21-16 21-18. This is the 26-year-old’s first BWF tournament this year. She finished at the quarter-final level at the China Masters Super 100 and Malaysia Masters Super 500 events since returning to the game.

Kim and Ashmita were in a close battle, with the scores tied at 14-14 before Chaliha seized control back. In the second set, Kim was up 8-2, before Ashmita came back in the game and won five straight points to win the match.
However, her fellow countrywoman, Anmol couldn’t hold on to the strong start and went down 21-14, 15-21, 13-21 to the fourth seed, Han Qian Xi, in a 60-minute match.
Chaliha will now face Korea’s Park Ga Eun on Saturday, to hopefully secure a place in the final.
