FC Barcelona have two new players and a re-signing on their roster as they will start the 26/27 season with their major members now having officially bid goodbye to the club.
Renee Van Asten
Barcelona have reached an agreement with the Eredivisie club, Ajax, for the transfer of the young centre back, Renee Van Asten. The youngster has a deal with them till 2030. During the 25/26 season, Van Asten was one of the breakout stars of the Dutch Women’s First Division. Her progress saw her make her debut for the senior Netherlands team, and now she brings her talent to FC Barcelona.
In May 2025, Ajax signed Van Asten to a first-team contract, which was a two-year deal supposed to last until 2027. Van Asten played her first match back from injury on 30 August 2025, participating in a friendly match versus Paris Saint-Germain. On 6 September 2025, she made her competitive professional debut, starting in a game against ADO Den Haag.
Her first senior goal came on 16th October, scoring against Grasshopper Club Zurich, helping Ajax qualify for the main stages of the UEFA Women’s Europa Cup. After the end of the 2025-26 league season, Van Asten was named Talent of the Year in the Eredivisie.
The youngster has represented her national side, the Netherlands, at multiple youth international levels. In 2022 and 2023, Van Asten played for and captained the under-17 national team. In 2023, she was called up to play for the under-20 at the 2024 FIFA U-20 Women’s World Cup. However, she sustained a cruciate ligament injury in a pre-tournament friendly against Spain that forced her to withdraw and watch on from afar as the Netherlands finished the tournament in fourth place.
Tyler McCamey
The second new signing on Barça’s roster is the US Goalkeeper, Tyler McCamey. McCamey has reached an agreement with them for the next two seasons, until 2028, on a free transfer from Dallas Trinity FC.
The 24-year-old was born in Atlanta, USA. She spent four years at Princeton University before making her professional debut with Gotham last year. Following those events, McCamey has had spells at Kansas City Current and, most recently, 16 appearances for Dallas Trinity FC.
Martina Fernández
The last player on Barça’s roster is Martina Fernández. However, she is not a new signing. The central defender is going to be back home after a year and a half at Everton, where she spent the first six months on loan before the move was made permanent. Barça exercised the buy-back option and agreed with the Merseyside club. Fernández will sign a new contract with the club through 2029.
In the Women’s Super League with Everton, the 21-year-old made 25 appearances. During the 2021/22 season, when Martina was only 17 years old, she made her official debut and established herself in the first team during the 2023/24 season. Under Jonatan Giráldez, she made a total of 22 appearances, including 15 Liga F matches, in which she started 12 of them.

Barça are looking to shift towards long-term sustainability, squad refreshment, and depth management after the departure of several established players. They are not trying to replace key players with high-profile signings, but are focusing on promising young players and aiming to emphasise their homegrown qualities.
Van Asten’s signing highlights Barça’s intent to secure long-term replacements in defence with versatile, ball-playing capability. McCamey will bring reliable support and competition to the goalkeeper unit alongside Cata Coll and Gemma Font. Fernández’s re-signing brings back a player who already knows the club’s philosophy. Her return will bolster central defence with proven top-flight quality.
