India Women’s team cricketers Sneh Rana, Renuka Singh, and Pratika Rawal have been promoted in Railways jobs to the post of ‘Officer on Special Duty (Sports)’ during a recent meet with India’s union minister for Railways, Ashwini Vaishnav. The decision came into effect following the team’s victory in the ICC Women’s ODI World Cup 2025. The promotion also comes with the pay and some benefits of a Group ‘B’ Gazetted Officer under the Level-8 of the Pay Matrix as per the 7th Central Pay Commission (CPC).

The initiative done by the Railway Sports Promotion Board (RSPB) aims to provide financial security and assign administrative responsibilities to the three women cricketers.
Earlier in November, they were felicitated at the Rail Bhawan by Union Minister for Railways, Information & Broadcasting, and Electronics & Information Technology, Shri Ashwini Vaishnaw.
Expressing her gratitude for the promotion, India Women’s team bowling all-rounder Rana shared a post following the appointment.
The post read, “Heartfelt thanks to Ministry of Railways for recognising the efforts and promoting me for the post of ‘Officer on Special Duty’ (Sports). Railways is the best organisation to be employed in, as a sports person. It motivates us to be at our best always. Gratitude!”
Rana has previously worked with the Northern Railways as a commercial-cum-ticket clerk. In the World Cup campaign, she played in six games and picked up seven wickets at an average of 45. As part of the lower-order batting lineup, she made some decent contributions, scoring 99 runs in five innings at the strike rate of 113.
In the recently concluded Women’s Premier League (WPL) mega auction, the 31-year-old cricketer was signed by the Delhi Capitals for INR 50 Lakhs.
Meanwhile, Rawal was the second-highest run-scorer for the team in the World Cup. She scored 308 runs in seven innings at an average of 51.33 and a strike rate of 77.77. The UP Warriorz acquired her in the WPL 2026 mega auction for ₹50 lakh.
As part of six games, pacer Renuka took only three wickets at an average of 60.33. In the WPL 2026 mega auction, she was acquired by the Gujarat Giants for ₹60 lakh.
For a long time, the Indian Railways has shown its support and promoted sporting talents. Over the past years, there have been several players that have represented India on the global stage and brought in achievements for the country.
