India Women’s Compound Team Beat USA 233-232 for Gold at 2026 Archery World Cup Stage 1

The Indian compound women’s team made a promising end to their Archery World Cup Stage-1 campaign. On Saturday, April 11, the trio of Jyothi Surekha Vennam, Madhura Dhamangaonkar and Pragati won the gold medal in the women’s compound event of the tournament. The team defeated the USA in the title decider match by 233-232.

Meanwhile, India missed out on the bronze medal in the compound mixed team event. The duo of Ojas Deotale and Pragati lost to the USA’s Alexis Ruiz and Stephan Hansen by a narrow margin of 154-155.

For India, the compound women’s gold medal is a first in the season-opening event. Besides, no other Indian team from any other event was able to secure a medal victory.

India’s Jyothi Surekha edged past World champion and World No.1 Andrea Becerra by 146-146, 10*-10, shot closer to the target and World No. 2 Ella Gibson of Great Britain in consecutive rounds. Surekha made it to the quarterfinals but lost to Mexico’s Dafne Quintero by 143-149 in the women’s compound event.

Other notable performers from India include Atanu Das and B. Dhiraj in men’s recurve and Abhishek Verma and Ojas Deotale in the men’s compound. They had to exit in the fourth round after losing their respective matches.

Pragati got a bye (first round), lost to Katharina Raab (Ger) 146-149 (second round)
