National Inter-State Athletics 2026: Ancy Sojan Breaks Anju Bobby George’s 22-Year-Old Long Jump Record

The 65th National Inter-state Senior Athletics Championships took place from June 24th to June 28th, 2026 at the Kalinga Stadium in Bhubaneswar, Odisha. The tournament was held by Odisha Athletics Association under the Athletics Federation of India. The tournament served as a pathway to qualify for the upcoming Asian Games.

Ancy Sojan broke a record that had been standing for 22 years. She broke Anju Bobby George’s 22-year-old national record in the women’s long jump category. She jumped 6.88m, breaking George’s record of 6.83m in 2004 during the Athens Olympics.

This feat makes her one of the favourites to win a gold medal at the Asian Games. Several others qualified for the games, while some fell short of the benchmark.

In the Women’s 400m hurdles, Vithya Ramraj won in 56.07s ahead of Anu R (56.54s). The standard for Asian Games qualification stood at 57.21s. Annu Rani came first in women’s javelin throw with an effort of 56.74m, while the qualification standard stood at 57.62m.
