Indian women Para shuttlers failed to secure any gold medals in the singles event on the final day of the BWF Para Badminton World Championship 2026 in Manama, Bahrain. Both Manisha Ramadass and Nithya Sre Sivan lost their final match to their Chinese counterparts and ended with silver medals in the event. On the final day, India added two golds, five silvers and eight bronze medals, taking the medal tally to 15.
In the women’s singles SU5 finals, former champion Ramadass was defeated by China’s Yang Qiu Xia in two straight sets by 18-21, 17-21. Meanwhile, Sre Sivan lost her SH6 final match to China’s Li Fengmei in a hard-fought battle by sets of 14-21, 21-12, 17-21. India’s gold medal loss in the women’s singles came for the second consecutive season in the Para World Championship event.
Elsewhere in other events, India’s women’s doubles duo of Manasi Joshi and Thulasimathi Murugesan claimed bronze in the SL3-SU5 category. In the mixed doubles SL3-SU5, Chirag Baretha and Mandeep Kaur secured bronze.
Meanwhile, India’s Pramod Bhagat won two gold medals, including one in the men’s singles SL3 event and the other in the men’s doubles SL3-SL4 category alongside Sukant Kadam. Pramod and Sukant got India its first men’s doubles world title in seven years after defeating Indian compatriots Jagadesh Dilli and Naveen Sivakumar. On the other hand, Naveen suffered defeat in his men’s singles SL4 final match against two-time Paralympic champion Lucas Mazur of France. The Indian lost by sets of 12-21, 21-19, 14-21.
India’s Para Badminton head coach Gaurav Khanna believes the squad could have added more gold medals, while crediting the 15 medals achieved on the finals day. Suhas Lalinakere Yathiraj, who was absent from the tournament this season, was a major miss, the coach felt. With the conclusion of the Para Badminton World Championship, the Indian squad is next headed for the Asian Games 2026.
