Two-time Olympic medallist P.V. Sindhu managed to survive in the first round of the Badminton Asia Championships 2026 in Ningbo, China. On Wednesday, April 8, Sindhu defeated Malaysia’s World No. 38 Wong Ling Ching. The match lasted for an hour and seven minutes with Sindhu winning by sets of 15-21, 21-11, 21-19.

Sindhu has returned back to the sport after two months. With the hard-fought win, the Indian will next face second-seeded and two-time champion Wang Zhi Yi of China in the quarterfinals.
Joining Sindhu, is India’s Unnati Hooda who has advanced to the next round after defeating Malaysia’s Supanida Katethong by sets of 23-25, 21-8, 21-18. The game was played for an hour and 12-minute long clash.
Meanwhile, in women’s singles, India’s Malvika Bansod and Tanvi Sharma lost their respective matches in straight games. Bansod lost to Thailand’s Busanan Ongbamrungphan by sets of 21-10, 21-19, while Sharma faced her defeat to Malaysia’s Karupathevan Letshanaa by sets of 21-19, 21-14.
