Zimbabwe Women are stepping into unfamiliar territory and a defining moment in their cricketing journey, as they prepare for their first-ever bilateral tour of Pakistan. The series, comprising three ODIs and three T20Is, will be played entirely at the iconic National Bank Stadium, offering both teams a crucial mid-cycle test in the evolving landscape of women’s international cricket.

The tour begins on May 3 with the ODI leg, which forms part of the ICC Women’s Championship 2025–29, a pathway that determines qualification for the next Women’s World Cup. The T20I series will follow from May 12, completing a tightly packed schedule that promises competitive cricket despite the contrasting recent form of the two sides.
For Zimbabwe Women, this tour represents more than just fixtures on a calendar- it is an opportunity to reset after a challenging outing against New Zealand. In their most recent series, Zimbabwe struggled to find momentum, failing to secure a single win as New Zealand asserted dominance across departments. The batting unit, in particular, came under scrutiny for its inability to convert starts into substantial contributions. Partnerships lacked stability, and the absence of a defining innings often left the team short of competitive totals.
Low-scoring matches became a recurring theme during that tour, reflecting both cautious shot selection and an inability to accelerate when needed. The middle order, which is expected to anchor chases, fell short under pressure, exposing a gap in finishing ability. On the bowling front, while there were glimpses of discipline, Zimbabwe lacked the cutting edge required to consistently take wickets at crucial intervals. Without regular breakthroughs, opposition batters were able to dictate the tempo, further compounding Zimbabwe’s challenges.
Heading into unfamiliar conditions in Karachi, Zimbabwe will need a collective improvement. Adapting quickly to subcontinental pitches, building longer innings, and sharpening their bowling attack will be key if they hope to challenge a home side eager to capitalize on familiar surroundings.
Pakistan Women, meanwhile, enter the series with mixed but encouraging signs following their recent tour of South Africa. Although they conceded both the ODI and T20I series, the team showed resilience by avoiding clean sweeps in both formats. Their ability to bounce back under pressure was evident, particularly in the latter stages of the tour.
In the ODI series, South Africa dominated the opening two matches, exposing gaps in Pakistan’s consistency with both bat and ball. However, Pakistan responded strongly in the third ODI, producing a composed performance to secure a consolation victory and prevent a whitewash. That win not only boosted morale but also highlighted the team’s capacity to regroup and execute under must-win circumstances.
A similar pattern unfolded in the T20Is. Despite trailing in the series, Pakistan showcased their fighting spirit by clinching the third match, underlining their ability to adapt and finish strongly. These performances, though not enough to claim the series, provide a foundation of confidence as they return to home conditions.
Currently placed fifth in the ICC Women’s Championship standings, Pakistan will view this series as an opportunity to consolidate their position and climb higher. Zimbabwe, placed seventh, are equally motivated, knowing that every point in the championship cycle carries long-term significance.
With both teams aiming to address recent shortcomings and build momentum, the series in Karachi sets the stage for a compelling contest. For Zimbabwe, it is a chance to script history and redefine their trajectory. For Pakistan, it is about reaffirming their strength at home and translating promise into consistent results.
Zimbabwe are scheduled to arrive in Pakistan on April 29.
