After seven years of marriage, Indian badminton star Saina Nehwal announced her separation from Parupalli Kashyap. During a recent interview with Filmygyan, the badminton player opened up and reflected back to that difficult time that she underwent.
She opened up by saying, “I think that decision was very difficult, you know it was not easy because sometimes after badminton, both of us like different things, our mindsets are different.”
Nehwal further talked about the challenges she and her husband faced when it came to their careers. During that time Kashyap was in his retirement stage and went on to choose the profession of a coach. The change in dynamics and disagreements left a deep impact on their relationship, making them disconnected from each other.
She then went on to explain, “That happens because you have spent so many years only in court, and suddenly, after so many years, you have left playing and become a coach. Kashyap is a coach now, we felt maybe something different is happening, and we were not liking whatever he likes, I don’t and all these things we were thinking maybe things aren’t going well.”
With time, the couple started having fights, and the two decided to set their paths in two different directions from each other. “So because of that I am sure we had fights that are meant to happen in such situations. We are not able to fix things so let us separate.”
The Olympic medalist had previously gotten separated from her husband and former badminton player Kashyap back on July 13, but the two decided to rekindle their marriage.
In an Instagram post, Saina posted a heartfelt picture of them, who were supposedly enjoying a vacation together. The picture of the caption read, “Sometimes distance teaches you the value of presence. Here we are— trying again.”
But sadly, some weeks later in August, the badminton ace stunned everyone after announcing her split-up decision with Kashyap.
This time she wrote, “Life takes us in different directions sometimes. After much thought and consideration, Kashyap and I have decided to part ways. We’re choosing peace, growth, and healing for ourselves and each other. I am grateful for the memories and wish nothing but the best moving forward.”
Saina and Kashyap first met at a badminton training camp, where they first became friends and then started dating in 2005. As professional athletes in badminton, they supported each other and their families. After dating for a decade, they decided to get married but in an intimate ceremony with friends and families on December 16, 2018.
