Khushi Chand Clinches Gold as Indian Female Boxers Shine at Asian Youth Games

Indian female athlete Khushi Chand is now the Asian Youth Games boxing champion. She defeated China’s Jinxiu Luo to win the gold medal after a dominant 4-1 victory in the girls’ 46 kg category.

Hailing from Pithoragarh, Khushi started the campaign on Day 1 with a strong run after defeating Jordan’s Reem Al-Ramahi by a commanding 5-0 decision at Exhibition World Bahrain. Advancing to the next stage, she then met Vietnam’s Nguyenthi Hongyen, whom she competed against in the quarter-finals match. Her prolific run continued in the semi-finals game against Ukraine’s Oleksandra Charyvataby by 3-2.

The Indian-origin boxers gave a wonderful display at the 3rd Asian Youth Games with some returning in terrific form and others in major wins. In addition to Chand, two more gold medals were added to the Indian female boxers’ tally on October 30, 2025, at the event held in Manama, Bahrain.

After Chand, came in another gold medal for India from Ahaana Sharma’s win in the girls’ 50 kg division over North Korea’s Jong Hyang Ma in a first-round. The third win came from the girls’ 54 kg category, where Chandrika Pujara got the gold medal after a win against Uzbekistan’s Kumriniso Muhammadova by a clean score of 5-0.

India’s gold medal trio of Chand, Ahaana and Chandrika were brilliant in their respective finals games at the Asian Youth Games. However, two more female Indian boxers are still competing for the gold medal against Kazakh boxers including Harnoor Kaur in 66kg and Anshika in 80+ kg.

Meanwhile, in the boys’ section, India’s Lanchenba Singh Moibungkhongbam bagged the silver medal after losing his final against Kazakhstan’s Zhumagali Nurmakhan by 0-5.

At the 3rd Asian Youth Games 2025, India saw the participation of 23 boxing members competing across 14 weight categories in the U-17 division (seven each for boys and girls). The event was held in Bahrain. Before that they underwent preparations of techniques and tactics and intense training sessions at a camp in NS NIS Patiala from September 23 to October 20. They were coached under national coaches Vinod Kumar and Jitender Raj Singh.

The boxing event will be held till October 30, 2025, and so far India’s young and emerging talents have brought in historic wins with strong podium finishes, specifically from female boxers. Lanchenba was India’s only male finalist in boxing, with three gold medals coming to the country from three different categories of female boxers.
