Jaiveer Singh and Moni Lead India’s Gold Medal Charge in Wrestling at Asian Youth Games

On Wednesday, October 29, 2025, Indian wrestlers Jaiveer Singh and Moni brought home two gold medals at the 3rd Asian Youth Games. In the boys’ 55 kg division, Jaiveer won against Japan’s Yamato Furusawa by 6-2; meanwhile, in the girls’ 57kg division, Moni got a commanding victory by 10-0 against Kyrgyzstan’s Sezim Kurmanbekovna Zholdoshbekova at the Exhibition World Bahrain in Manama.

In the quarter-finals, Jaiveer took a win on criteria against the Islamic Republic of Iran’s Yasin Zarezadeh. The brilliance continued in the semi-finals, where he defeated Kazakhstan’s Ibrahim Yskakbek by 5-0 and finished his campaign with a gold medal victory against Furusawa.

In the girls’ freestyle 57 kg category, Moni’s road to final was a credit to her previous dominant wins over Thailand’s Nathakham in the quarter-finals by 4-0, followed by her victory against People’s Republic of China’s Xiaohan Xu in the semi-final match. She won the game with a commanding score of 8-0.

In addition to the two gold medals, two wrestlers added silver medals. In the boys’ 65kg category, Gourav Punia lost the finals game against U17 world championships bronze medalist Morteza Haj Mollamohammadi, from Iran by 1-4. On the other hand, Ashvini Vishnoi in the girls’ 69kg category lost her finals game against China’s Zhao Min by 10-3.

With two golds and two silvers, bronze medals were also won by the Indian wrestlers. U17 worlds bronze medalist Komal Verma in the girls’ 49kg event, took the win against People’s Republic of China’s Mo Xiaoqing by 3-1.

Besides this, female wrestler Rachana dominated in the girls’ 43kg division and won a bronze medal match against Kyrgyzstan’s Aizhan Kylychbekovna Kabylbekova by 11-0.

A total of seven medals were added by the Indian wrestlers on that day, which set India’s tally at the 3rd Asian Youth Games to 33, including six gold, 11 silver, and 16 bronze.

India’s first medal in wrestling was brought by Yashita after winning the first gold medal for India after defeating Kazakhstan’s Zhaidar Mukat in the girls’ 61 kg division by a technical point. In previous rounds, she got two successful wins against Uzbekistan’s Jumanazarova by 4-1 and Kyrgyzstan’s Chynybaeva by 6-0.

Earlier, in the weightlifting category, India’s Priteesmita Bhoi and India’s boys’ and girls’ kabaddi teams have brought in gold medals at the 2025 Asian Youth Games.

Over 222 athletes represented India at the Asian Youth Games, which will conclude on Friday, October 31, 2025.
