South Africa Women’s all-rounder Marizanne Kapp says Jemimah Rodrigues has great leadership skills and believes she could be the next captain of the India Women’s team.

Kapp will return to action with Delhi Capitals team in the upcoming Women’s Premier League (WPL) 2026 that starts on January 9. She will join the team under the newly appointed captain Jemimah. Jemimah replaces Lanning, who previously led Delhi Capitals and has now joined hands with UP Warriorz for the 2026 season as the captain.
Fresh from the victory in the Ireland series, Marizanne is entering her fourth season of the WPL 2026 with Delhi Capitals Women. During a recent interview, she expressed her disappointment at losing Lanning from the team under whom they finished as runners-up in the first three editions of WPL.
She said, “Yeah, look, I’m not going to lie. Losing Meg as a captain is obviously a big thing. She’s a very successful captain, not only for Delhi Capitals, but in world cricket in general.” Kapp further heaped high praise on Rodrigues’ leadership and says she would be a great fit for the India Women’s team captain.
“But in saying that, I have said this a few years ago. When I was asked who India’s next captain should be, I actually said Jemimah. I feel she’s a player who can bring a team together. Her personality, how caring she is, she’s always been a leader. Even experienced captains face challenges. Jemimah has a lot of senior players around her, and I think she’ll take this opportunity with both hands,” she added.
In the Women’s ODI World Cup 2025, Kapp’s South Africa lost against India in the final. However, in three seasons of WPL as part of the Capitals’ Women’s team, the all-rounder has scored 362 runs in 24 matches played so far. In the first season, she amassed 177 runs in nine matches at a strike rate of 121.23. The following season, she scored 79 runs in seven matches at a strike rate of 133.89. In the last season she played, she scored 106 runs at a strike rate of 129.26.
