Jemimah Rodrigues Named Delhi Capitals Captain Ahead of WPL 2026

India Women’s team star batter Jemimah Rodrigues has been appointed as Delhi Capitals captain ahead of the Women’s Premier League (WPL) 2026, scheduled from January 9 to February 5. Jemimah was retired by the Capitals for ₹2.20 crore ahead of the mega auction.

Jemimah will replace former Australian skipper Meg Lanning, who will don UP Warriorz colours in WPL 2026. Under her captaincy, Delhi Capitals had made it to three straight final appearances. The Indian star has played 27 matches in WPL and scored 507 runs at a strike rate of 139.66.

The batter is currently part of the India women’s squad for the ongoing T20I series against Sri Lanka. In 113 WT20Is matches played so far, Jemimah has scored 2444 runs at a strike rate of 117.33, including 14 fifties. She also played in 59 WODIs, scoring 1749 runs.

Delhi Capitals will play the opening match of WPL 2026 against Mumbai Indians, scheduled on January 10 in Navi Mumbai. In a media release from Delhi Capitals, Rodrigues expressed her excitement about the appointment as the team’s captain.

She said, “It is an absolute honour to be named captain of the Delhi Capitals, and I am deeply grateful to the owners and the support staff for placing their faith in me to lead this team. It has truly been a dream year for me and my family, winning the World Cup and now being entrusted with this wonderful opportunity at a franchise that has held a very special place in my heart since the very first season of the WPL.”

Delhi Capitals co-owner and JWS Sports Founder Mr Parth Jindal, heaped praise on Jemimah and her contribution to the team since the 2022-23 season.

Beyond her on-field heroics, her infectious smile and boundless energy have made her a much-loved presence in the dressing room, and I am confident she will lead the squad exceptionally well.
