The Hundred 2026 to Begin July 21; First-Ever Player Auction Set for March 11

The sixth edition of The Hundred 2026 is set to host its first auction of the women’s and men’s teams scheduled on March 11 and 12, respectively. Numerous changes have been implemented, including the player selection model and salary package. The tournament is set to begin on July 21, with the live telecast on Sky Sports. MI London and Sunrisers Leeds will play the opening fixture scheduled at The Kia Oval.

A total of eight men’s and women’s franchises will be in participation. The teams can pre-sign or retain up to four players ahead of the auction, in which only four players maximum can be retained, one must be retained from last year’s squad, two can be from overseas players or has a central contract in either the 2024-25 or 2025-26 seasons. However, each team will have a total of 16 to 18 players with a minimum salary cap and collar to spend.

Meanwhile, the salary cap of men’s players for this edition has increased by 45%, that is to £2.05m per side, while, for a female player it has risen by 50% to £15,000.

Following the announcement of the auction, Vikram Banerjee, The Hundred Managing Director, is quite excited for the tournament and is aiming to see the development through the changes implemented this season.

He said, “This is a hugely exciting time for The Hundred. These changes will help us make the competition even better, ensuring we get the best players in the world and improving the standard of cricket and level of entertainment further again.”
