Delhi Capitals captain Jemimah Rodrigues has been fined ₹12 lakh for maintaining a slow over-rate during her side’s Women’s Premier League (WPL) 2026 clash against Gujarat Giants at the BCA Stadium in Vadodara on Tuesday.

The fine was imposed after Delhi Capitals failed to complete their overs within the stipulated time during the tightly contested encounter, which the Giants won by three runs. The defeat proved costly for the Capitals, who slipped to fourth place on the points table following the result.
Confirming the penalty, the WPL released an official statement stating that Rodrigues was sanctioned under the league’s Code of Conduct relating to minimum over-rate offences.
“Jemimah Rodrigues, captain of Delhi Capitals, has been fined after her team maintained a slow over-rate during their match against Gujarat Giants at the BCA Stadium, Vadodara,” the statement read.
The league further clarified that since it was Rodrigues’ first offence of the season, the penalty stood at ₹12 lakh, in accordance with WPL regulations.
With the league stage nearing its conclusion, Delhi Capitals find themselves in a tense qualification battle. The side currently has six points from their campaign, along with a net run rate of -0.164, leaving them firmly in contention but with little margin for error in the race for the playoffs.
The three-time WPL runners-up will now turn their focus to their final group-stage fixture against UP Warriorz, scheduled for February 1. With a top-three finish required to secure a playoff berth, the match assumes significant importance for the Capitals as they look to keep their title hopes alive.
