Same-sex couples in women’s sports have helped LGBTQ+ rights receive acceptance and recognition in the industry, with athletes like Billie Jean King and Megan Rapinoe advocating and playing a giant role in it. When it comes to cricket, there have been several same-sex couples as part of the same teams as current players, while some are former cricketers too. The list includes popular names like Nat Sciver-Brunt and Katherine Sciver-Brunt and others.
1. Nat Sciver-Brunt and Katherine Sciver-Brunt (England)
The England star cricketers first got engaged in October 2019, followed by their marriage in 2022 after dating for five years. Last year, they welcomed their child named Theo in April 2024.
The two have been England teammates, including on the 2017 ODI World Cup-winning team and their run in the 2022 World Cup. As a captain, Nat has been an influential part of the team and is currently playing in the ongoing Women’s World Cup, leading them into the top three ranks.
2. Lizelle Lee and Tanja Cronje (South Africa)
After dating each other for four and a half years, the duo of Lizelle Lee and Tanja Cronje tied the knot on September 5, 2020. Following the marriage, Lizelle took to her Instagram account and shared a heartfelt post for her wife, Cronje, that read, “Now I get to call you my wife. A special day spent with special people! Love you so much.”
Lee was influential in South Africa’s 2020 T20 World Cup semi-finals run. Her high score in the tournament was 101 runs off 60 balls. Meanwhile, Cronje last played in the CSA Women’s Provincial T20 Competition in 2022, representing Lions Women.
3. Dane van Niekerk and Marizanne Kapp (South Africa)
Former South Africa captain Dane van Niekerk and current player Marizanne Kapp are two of the popular names in SA women’s cricket. The duo tied the knot in 2018 and have been happily married. As part of the national team, the two have played together in 82 ODIs and 56 T20Is and also represented the Sydney Sixers in the Women’s Big Bash League (WBBL).
Van Niekerk took her retirement from her international career in 2023, but in 2025 she revoked her decision and is currently playing domestic cricket. Meanwhile, Kapp is in the national team squad for the ongoing ICC Women’s ODI World Cup.
4. Amy Satterthwaite and Lea Tahuhu (New Zealand)
They grew up playing for the St. Albans Cricket Club in Christchurch and started dating in 2010 as district cricket players for Canterbury. In 2014, Tahuhu proposed to Satterthwaite, and the two got married in 2017. They both represented New Zealand in international cricket and have played together in 67 ODIs and 52 T20Is.
In January 2020, they welcomed their first child, Grace Marie Satterthwaite, and in 2024, their second child, named Louie Andrew Satterthwaite, was born.
5. Rachael Haynes and Leah Poulton (Australia)
They first started playing for the Australians in the late 2000s. Both are currently former players who, in October 2021, welcomed their child Hugo Poulton-Haynes via IVF.
Australian women’s vice-captain Rachel Haynes played a major role in the 2018 and 2020 T20 World Cups for the national women’s team. With over 10 years spent there, she was the top-order batter across all three formats.

After dating for eight years, former Australian cricketer Alex Blackwell and England’s Lynsey Askew got married in 2015. Earlier in 2013, Blackwell announced publicly that she was a lesbian and is now married to Lynsey.
7. Lea Tahuhu and Amy Satterthwaite (New Zealand)
Former New Zealand cricketer Amy Satterthwaite and current player Lea Tahuhu are a married couple who tied the knot in 2017. The couple has a daughter named Grace Marie Satterthwaite, whom they welcomed in 2020.
Tahuhu is a current and active cricketer of the New Zealand team. In the ICC Women’s ODI World Cup 2025, the bowler picked up 10 wickets in six innings for the team at an average of 15.70.
8. Megan Schutt and Jess Holyoake (Australia)
The couple tied the knot in 2019 after dating for six years. However, the two got separated this year, ending their marriage. In a recently shared social media post, Australian bowler Megan Schutt announced their separation. The couple has a daughter named Rylee Loiuse Schutt, born in August 2021.
Schutt’s Instagram post read, “Hey everyone! Life doesn’t always go as planned, and Jess and I have decided to end our relationship. It’s been an action-packed 10 years and I’m so thankful to have had so many amazing memories. We have been so lucky to have created our biggest achievement and gift, in Rylee. Our beautiful girl will always be our number one priority… and we’ll still look to role model a happy, healthy relationship; just not a romantic one.”
9. Jess Jonassen and Sarah Wearn (Australia)
Australia’s left-arm spinner Jess Jonassen got married to partner Sarah Wearn in 2023. Jonassen leaked some snippets of the wedding ceremony, which was held in a stunning waterside ceremony in Hawaii. She joined the national women’s team in 2012.
10. Lauren Winfield-Hill and Courtney Hill (England)
The duo of Lauren Winfield-Hill and Courtney Hill tied the knot in 2020. They have played together as teammates in the domestic cricket for the Brisbane Heat. Lauren is an English cricketer who plays in international cricket, while Courtney plays in domestic cricket.
Lauren is currently playing in the Women’s Big Bash League (WBBL) 2025 for Brisbane. In five innings played so far, she scored 87 runs.
Meanwhile, Courtney is a former cricketer and a rugby league professional player. She has also worked as an assistant coach for the Brisbane Heat in WBBL. She also played the same role in the 2024 South Africa tour and the Women’s Ashes.
