Sri Lanka women’s team has announced their squad for the upcoming five-match T20I series against India, led by captain Chamari Athapaththu. The T20I series will begin from December 21 in two venues, with the first two matches scheduled in Visakhapatnam and the remaining three in Thiruvananthapuram.

Sri Lanka has named a quite young 15-member squad for this series. The bowling line-up comprises some fresh talents, including spinner Shashini Gimhani (17), Rashmika Sewwandi (19), and seamer Kawya Kavindi (23). As for the experienced ones, the squad includes spinner Inoka Ranaweera, seamer Malki Madara, as well as Malsha Shehani.
Gimhani is the youngest left-arm spinner to play women’s T20I at the age of 15. She made her WT20I debut for the ICC Women’s T20 World Cup Qualifier 14th match against Uganda Women held in May 2024. In that match, she ended with figures of 2/23.
This year, she was part of the Sri Lanka U-19 squad for the tri-series against Australia and England, held in Galle and Hambantota. Her bowling gained attention with people picking out a similarity with former South Africa wrist spinner Paul Adams. In the five T20Is played so far, Gimhani has taken six wickets at an average of 13.83.
Seamer Kavindi, on the other hand, has experience of 10 T20Is matches with 10 wickets to her name. She has also played five WODIs with only a single wicket claimed. Meanwhile, Sewwandi, another young seamer, made her WT20I debut for the team this year during the New Zealand tour, during the third match.
Meanwhile, the battling lineup has many familiar faces, including Hasini Perera, Vishmi Giunaratne, Harshitha Samarawickrama, Nilakshika de Silva, and Kavisha Dilhari. All of them were part of the Sri Lanka ODI World Cup squad. Kaushini Nuthyangana is likely to take the gloves in Sanjeewani’s stead.
Not included in the squad are wicketkeeper-batter Anushka Sanjeewani (35), with 86 matches of experience in the T20I format, Udeshika Prabodhani (39), Sugandika Kumari (33), and Achini Kulasuriya (34). All these players were part of the Sri Lanka squad for the New Zealand tour for T20Is held earlier in March 2025.
