Sanfida Nongrum is one of the most promising young midfielders in Indian women’s football. Hailing from the football-loving state of Meghalaya, Nongrum has quickly risen through domestic competitions to represent the India women’s national team. Known for her attacking instincts, leadership qualities, and goal-scoring ability from midfield, she has emerged as a key player for Garhwal United FC in the Indian Women’s League system. Her rapid rise in the sport has also made her a significant figure for football development in Meghalaya, becoming the first player from the state to earn a senior cap for the Indian women’s national team.
Sanfida Nongrum was born and raised in Shillong, the capital city of Meghalaya, a region where football plays an important role in the local sporting culture. From an early age, she developed a passion for the game and participated in local competitions and youth tournaments. Her early football experience came through grassroots development structures in Meghalaya, including representing the Meghalaya sub-junior girls’ team, where she gained her first exposure to organised competitive football.

In addition to national league competitions, Nongrum also contributed significantly to football in her home state. In 2024, she captained the Laitkor club to victory in the Meghalaya Women’s Football League, strengthening her reputation as one of the region’s leading young players.
During the 2025-26 Karnataka Women’s League, Nongrum delivered a standout performance, finishing as the top scorer with 15 goals and earning the Player of the Tournament award. This achievement highlighted her attacking ability and effectiveness as a goal-scoring midfielder.
Beyond club football, Sanfida Nongrum has also competed in national-level domestic tournaments. She represented Delhi in the Senior Women’s National Football Championship, one of the most competitive state tournaments in Indian women’s football. Participation in such competitions provided her with exposure to high-level opponents and helped further her development as a player.
Sanfida Nongrum reached a historic milestone in 2026 when she made her senior debut for the India women’s national team during the AFC Women’s Asian Cup. Her debut came on 4 March 2026 in a group-stage match against Vietnam held in Perth, Australia. In a remarkable moment, Nongrum scored a goal in her very first international appearance, making an immediate impact for the national side.
