Over the years, Basfore has developed into a reliable figure in India’s midfield, contributing both defensively and offensively while helping the team maintain balance and control during matches.
Sangita Basfore began her football journey in West Bengal, where she represented the West Bengal state team during her early playing years. Competing in state-level tournaments allowed her to develop her technical abilities and gain experience against strong domestic opponents. Her performances at the state level eventually attracted attention from clubs competing in India’s top women’s football competitions. The experience she gained during these early years laid the foundation for her future career in the Indian Women’s League.
In 2016, Sangita joined Rising Students Club, a prominent women’s football team based in Odisha. The move marked her entry into the Indian Women’s League (IWL), the highest level of women’s club football in India. During her time with Rising Students Club, she played an important role in the team’s midfield and contributed to their successful campaign in the 2017-18 Indian Women’s League, where the club won the league title. The victory was a major milestone in her domestic career and helped establish her reputation as a dependable midfielder.
In 2018, Basfore signed for SSB Women FC, where she continued to develop as a key midfield player. During the 2018-19 Indian Women’s League season, SSB Women reached the semi-finals after a 2-0 victory over Hans Women FC in the group stage, a match in which Basfore scored an impressive goal. Although the team eventually lost in the semi-finals to Sethu FC, Basfore had a productive season and finished with three goals in the tournament.
Her time with SSB Women also included participation in the Calcutta Women’s Football League, where the team won the 2019–20 season title, further adding to her domestic achievements. Later in her career, Sangita joined East Bengal FC Women, one of the most historic football clubs in India.
She first represented India’s U-19 women’s national team at the age of 17, gaining valuable exposure to international football. Her performances at youth level led to her call-up to the India senior national team at the age of 19, when she was selected for the squad preparing for Olympic qualification tournaments in 2016. Basfore scored her first international goal on 17 March 2019 during the SAFF Women’s Championship, in a group stage match against Sri Lanka, helping India secure a 5-0 victory.
