No. 40 Philippines has earned its qualification for the 2027 Women’s World Cup in Brazil. The team defeated Uzbekistan on Thursday, March 19, 2026, in the Women’s Asian Cup playoffs by a score of 2-0. The Philippines has been on a brilliant run under Australian coach Mark Torcaso with their gold medal win at the 2025 Southeast Asian Games.

The Philippines scored twice in five minutes to beat Uzbekistan through goal scorers Angela Beard and Jaclyn Sawicki. Angela brought in the goal for her home team in the 47th minute of the match, while Sawicki added the second goal by scoring with her head. Despite the loss, Uzbekistan has one final chance to qualify for the World Cup through the inter-confederation playoffs, which include two spots.
Besides the Philippines, Australia, China, Japan and South Korea have also qualified for the Brazil World Cup and are in the Asian Cup semifinals. However, one seat is still empty which will be filled by the winner of the playoffs match between North Korea and Taiwan. Both were losing quarterfinalists of the tournament.
The Philippines had played their debut World Cup back in 2023 which was co-hosted by Australia and New Zealand. Meanwhile, Australia and Japan will face each other for the Asian Cup finals match scheduled on Saturday, March 21.
