Former track and field legend PT Usha’s husband, V Srinivasan, has passed away. According to reports, Srinivasan collapsed in his residence early on Friday morning, January 30, 2026. He was immediately rushed to the hospital, where he was declared dead. Following her husband’s demise, Usha, a Rajya Sabha member and President of the Indian Olympic Association (IOA), reportedly spoke on a call with Prime Minister Narendra Modi.

Aged 67, Srinivasan was a retired Deputy Superintendent from CISF and a former kabaddi player by profession. He had played a major role in Usha’s return to track and field for the 1998 Asian Athletics Championships. In addition to that, he had been actively working in the establishment of the Usha School of Athletics.
Meanwhile, many athletes and politicians have posted heartfelt messages in tribute and offered their prayers for the family.
Two-time Olympic medallist PV Sindhu wrote, “Heartbroken to hear about the passing of PT Usha madam’s husband, Shri V. Srinivasan. Ushaji and our family have been close family friends for more than 20 years, and this loss is truly irreparable. My deepest condolences to Usha madam and the entire family. Praying for strength and peace.”
Both the female sports players’ families are close with one another for over 20 years and are deeply saddened by the loss.
On the other hand, India’s first Olympic gold medallist Abhinav Bindra wrote: “Saddened by the news of the passing of Shri V. Srinivasan, husband of PT Usha ji. My sincere condolences to Usha ji and the family. May his soul rest in peace and may you find the strength to endure this loss.”
The couple is survived by a son named Vignesh Ujjwal. Srinivasan was the son of Padmini and the late Narayanan. He also had siblings named Girija Vallabhan, Biju, Nandini, and Beena.
