Anahat Singh Clinches Indian Open 2025 Title After Thrilling Five-Set Finale

India was assured of a title in women’s squash at the Daly College SRFI Indian Open 2025. Both Anahat Singh and Joshna Chinappa were the top two contenders who clashed with each other in the finals game. It was an intense final clash between the two in Indore, but Anahat managed to end up taking the title.

Anahat qualified in the finals after winning the semifinals match against third-seeded Ireland’s Hannah Craig by a score of 3-2 (11-4, 10-12, 9-11, 11-6, 11-4). The finals match went in five rounds, with Anahat winning by a lead of 3-2 against Chinappa in sets of 11-8, 11-13, 11-9, 6-11, and 11-9 in 54 minutes. The win was the 17-year-old’s third title of the season and her 13th PSA title in her 20th PSA event appearance. Previously she won a title at the Indian Open in Mumbai and the SRFI Indian Tour title in Chennai.

In her semifinals clash, Chinappa defeated Egypt’s Nadien Elhammamy by a lead of 3-1 and sets of 7-11, 11-5, 11-7, and 11-7. The two-time Asian champion earlier in March went head-to-head against Anahat during the Indian Open event, which she also lost to the young prodigy.

Anahat’s achievements list in the 2025 season

Earlier this year, Anahat won the Asian senior titles in women’s and mixed doubles. She also made her debut for the senior World Championship held in Chicago. Following that, in July, she won a bronze medal at the World Junior Squash Championships 2025 in Egypt. Her win got India its Under-19 individual medal after 15 years.

Later in August, she made it to the final match of the PSA World Tour Copper-level event. From there she then advanced to the final game of the NSW Squash Bega Open 2025 held in Australia.

Last month at the Canadian Women’s Open, Anahat defeated players like seventh-ranked Tinne Gilis and world No. 20 Melissa Alves to reach the semi-finals, which she lost to world No. 10 England’s Georgina Kennedy.

The 17-year-old emerging squash star has won two bronze medals in the 2023 Asian Games held in Hangzhou in both the women’s team and mixed doubles events. With the win, she became the youngest Indian to become an Asian Games medallist at the age of 15 years after Sanjana Bathula.

In the 2022 Commonwealth Games held in Birmingham, Anahat was the youngest Indian player to win a senior competition in her debut after defeating St. Vincent and the Grenadines’ Jada Ross in the 64th round.
