Manika Batra Leads India Women to Back-to-Back Wins at World Team Table Tennis 2026

On Tuesday, April 28, the Indian women’s table tennis team continues to extend their campaign at the ongoing World Team Table Tennis Championship. The team had secured a 3-0 win after resulting in a walkover against Uganda. The Indian women’s team, which comprised players Manika Batra, Yashaswini Ghorpade, Sutirtha Mukherjee, Diya Chitale, and Syndrela Das, did not play any match.

With the win, the Indian women’s team will go up against Ukraine. They will next face Ukraine in their second match on Wednesday, April 29. The following day, the women’s team will play their final Group 6 of Stage 1b against Rwanda.

In the ongoing event being held in London, the Indian women’s team are coming off two consecutive victories in the group stage (Stage 1b). In their opening fixture held on 28 April, India won against Uganda by 3-0. Meanwhile, India won their second against Ukraine by 3-2. Yashaswini Ghorpade (won the decider), followed by Manika Batra, and Diya Chitale.

The inaugural edition of the ITTF World Table Tennis Championships took place in England back in 1926. The tennis sport makes its return back to where it began, and as a symbol for a historic milestone.

A total of 64 teams have been divided into 16 groups of four each that are participating across each of the men’s and women’s events for a total of 13 days at two iconic London venues. The Championships take place across two iconic London venues. The Copper Box Arena in Queen Elizabeth Olympic Park is hosting the opening stage from 28 April to 1 May. The action will move to OVO Arena Wembley for the knockout rounds from 2 to 10 May.

The ITTF Championships were first held as a standalone competition back in 2000. The ongoing tournament will conclude on May 10.
Only the top two seeded groups, including the top seven teams and hosts England, will play in Stage 1a, while the remaining teams will play in Stage 1b.
