In the women’s singles quarterfinals match on Friday, February 6, seventh-seeded Lilli Tagger of Austria stunned second-seeded Darja Semenistaja of Latvia to claim her spot in the semi-finals match of the L&T Mumbai Open 125K Series event. The 2025 French Open junior champion defeated the former champion by sets of 4-6, 6-4, 6-2, held at the Maharashtra State Lawn Tennis Association. The Austrian will next face China’s Fangran Tian, who won her match against Japan’s Mei Yamaguchi by 6-2, 2-6, 6-2.

The Latvian was strong-headed at the start by taking control and winning the first set. Semenistaja’s groundstrokes and forehand threw down Tagger a bit, but the Austrian made a forehand to level the opening set at 3-3. But the Latvian broke her serve in the tenth game to win the set by 6-4. But entering the second set, Tagger finds her way to come back harder through serves and by firing down aces.
Soon enough, she gained control and rallied through with a Federer-esque backhand and went on to win the set by 6-4. Meanwhile, the third and final set saw the Austrian dominating Semenistaja through early strikes and maintaining strong momentum throughout the game until the end, sealing her place with a lead of 6-2 and advancing to the next step to secure her spot in the semi-finals.
Earlier in the day, last year runner-up Mananchaya Sawangkaew of Thailand secured a commanding victory over ninth seed Tatiana Prozorova of Russia by sets of 6-1, 6-4. In another women’s singles quarterfinals match, fifth seed Lanlana Tararudee of Thailand knocked out third seed Leolia Jeanjean of France to win by sets of 4-6, 6-3, 6-2.
