South Africa’s women’s team is set to begin a defining phase in its international journey as Cricket South Africa on January 29 unveiled the T20I and ODI squads for the upcoming home series against Pakistan. The limited-overs tour, scheduled from 10 February to 1 March, will be played across six venues and marks the Proteas’ first step into a new ICC Women’s Championship cycle.

The series will span Potchefstroom, Benoni, Kimberley, Bloemfontein, Centurion and Durban, offering the hosts valuable preparation ahead of major global events on the calendar.

While the three-match T20I series will form a key part of South Africa’s build-up to the ICC Women’s T20 World Cup 2026 in England and Wales, the ODI leg carries added significance. The 50-over fixtures officially launch the Proteas Women’s ICC Women’s Championship campaign, which acts as the qualification pathway for the ICC Women’s Cricket World Cup in 2029.

The Proteas Women are scheduled to assemble in Potchefstroom on 5 February, five days ahead of the opening T20I. The T20I series will run from 10 to 16 February before the focus shifts to the ODI contests on 22 and 25 February. The tour will conclude with the fifth edition of the Black Day ODI at Kingsmead Stadium in Durban on 1 March.

A notable highlight of the T20I squad is the inclusion of 20-year-old all-rounder Kayla Reyneke, who has earned her maiden call-up to the national side. She joins a balanced squad that sees the return of experienced campaigners Chloé Tryon, Nadine de Klerk and Marizanne Kapp following their Women’s Premier League (WPL) commitments.

Regulars Dané van Niekerk, Suné Luus, Ayabonga Khaka and Masabata Klaas have also been retained for the T20I leg, providing leadership and continuity within the group. The wicketkeeping duties will be shared by Sinalo Jafta and Karabo Meso, while Nonkululeko Mlaba and Annerie Dercksen add depth to the spin and all-round options. Batters Tazmin Brits and Ayanda Hlubi return to the setup after missing the recent Ireland series.

The ODI squad sees a few changes as South Africa fine-tunes its combination for the Women’s Championship. Lara Goodall, Faye Tunnicliffe, Nondumiso Shangase and Tumi Sekhukhune have been drafted into the 50-over squad, replacing Khaka, Klaas, Reyneke and van Niekerk.

With the ICC Women’s Championship cycle underway and the T20 World Cup on the horizon, the series against Pakistan offers South Africa a valuable opportunity to test combinations, integrate new talent and set the tone for the next four-year journey.
