USA’s Isani Vaghela Suspended by ICC for Illegal Bowling Action

American cricketer Isani Vaghela has received a suspension from the International Cricket Council (ICC) with immediate effect after the Event Panel declared her bowling action illegal. In effect to that she will remain debarred from bowling in any international cricket tournaments until further notice. Vaghela is a USA Women’s cricketer who was part of the team’s ongoing campaign in the ICC Women’s T20 World Cup Qualifiers.

A statement released by the ICC stated, “In accordance with Article 6.7 of the regulations, she is suspended from bowling in international cricket.”

Meanwhile, during her suspension period, she will undergo a reassessment process and work on her bowling skills until she proves that her playing style does not involve any illegal action. The decision by the ICC projects a major step towards maintaining fairness and keeping the integrity of women’s cricket alive in every step possible.

The suspension against Vaghela was reportedly done by the match officials after the January 22 game between the USA and Ireland for the ongoing T20 World Cup Global Qualifier held in Nepal. According to ICC’s Event Panel, the match footage reviewed showed that Vaghela’s bowling action was illegal and was done against the regulation of Article 6.7.

Who is Isani Vaghela?

The 20-year-old all-rounder cricketer of the USA Women has 45 international caps to her name. In six WODIs, she scored 45 runs at a strike rate of 51.72 and picked up four wickets at an average of 54.75. Meanwhile, in 39 WT20Is, she scored 277 runs at a strike rate of 77.15, while she took 31 wickets at an average of 14.06.

Meanwhile, the all-rounder is currently actively involved in the T20 Women’s World Cup Qualifiers match as part of the USA Women’s Squad. She first played two warm-up matches, one against Scotland and the other against Nepal. In the first game, she scored four runs while ending with the bowling figure of 1/24, while in the second game she amassed 20 runs for her team.

Vaghela played her first Qualifiers match against Bangladesh Women on January 18, in which she picked two wickets in 26 balls. Following that, she played in six more matches so far, in which she scored a total of 60 runs, while picking up two wickets only.

As part of Group A, the USA Women’s team is currently in No. 3 with four points. In the Super Six points table, they have finished in fifth place with two points only and a net run rate of -0.772.
