Ekta Bhyan adds a silver Medal for India
Indian para club thrower Ekta Bhyan secures a silver medal in the Women’s Club Throw F51 event at the 2025 World Para Athletics Championships held in New Delhi on Saturday, October 4, 2025. Ekta performed her season’s best throw of 19.80 m.

India’s Kashish Lakra was another competitor in the event who finished sixth with her best throw of 11.64 m.
The former World and Asian Para Games champion claimed her third consecutive world medal, including a bronze in 2023 and a gold in the 2024 editions.
Ekta fell short with her attempt, as Ukraine’s Zoia Ovsii got the gold with her best throw of 24.03 m. Satisfied with her performance, Ekta expressed her excitement about the win post-match.
She said, “The target was gold obviously, but this is my third world championship medal and I am glad I could repeat my performance from last year. There was a little pressure both as defending champion and it being held at home, but that’s the beauty of sports, you have to overcome your challenges.”
Praveen Kumar gets bronze for India
Joining Ekta was Indian para high jumper Praveen Kumar, who won bronze in the men’s T64 high jump event. Praveen performed his season best of 2.00 metres. The Indian athlete fell short of gold medallist Temurbek Giyazov from Uzbekistan, who scored a personal best of 2.03 m. Joining them on the podium was Great Britain’s Jonathan Broom-Edwards with the silver medal and a score of 2.0 m.
Ahead of the event, Praveen was seen in discomfort after each attempt. In his first try he cleared 1.97 m but stumbled at 2.00 m with the target score raised at 2.03 m. He ended his three attempts with a best of 2.00 m.
Stating his condition, he revealed, “I have been nursing a hip injury for the last 10-12 days, which is why I shortened my run-up,” he said.
The Indian athlete finished with bronze in the 2023 edition, followed by a fourth-place finish in the last edition.

Besides Ekta and Praveen, India’s third medal of the day came from Soman Rana in the men’s shot put F57 category. The 42-year-old claimed the bronze medal with his season best of 14.69 m.
A special mention is of Nimisha Chakkungal Parambil, who has set the new Asian record after finishing fourth in the women’s Long Jump T47 with a jump of 5.74 m.
