Over 73 Indian para-athletes participated in the recently concluded Indian Oil New Delhi 2025 World Para Athletics Championships held at the Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium. The nine-day event ended with the host nation ending with 22 medals in total, including six gold, nine silver, and seven bronze medals.

India finished 10th in the medal tally with some first-ever record-breaking moments, including three championships and seven Asian records, along with 30 personal best performances. Out of the 22 medals, six came from women athletes displaying courage and power-packed performances in the events.
1. Simran Sharma (2 medals – one gold, one silver)
The visually impaired sprinter competed in the tournament alongside her guide, Umar Saifi. The para-athlete first participated in the Women’s 100m T12 event. There she claimed her first gold medal with a personal best time of 11.95 seconds. The second spot was secured by China’s Liang Yanfen with guide Tian Haoyu with a time of 12.11s, while the third spot was claimed by Spain’s Garcia Folgado Nagore with guide Rafael Quijal Romera with a personal best time of 12.11s.
On the final day of the tournament, Simran finished second in the women’s 200m T12 event, setting an Asian record with a time of 24.46s. Brazil’s Clara Daniele Barros Da Silva won the event with a time of 24.42 s. Meanwhile, People’s Republic of China athlete Yaqin Shen took bronze with a time of 25.30 s.
2. Preeti Pal (2 medals – one bronze, one si;lver)
Preeti’s participation in the Women’s 200m T35 event ended with a bronze medal after performing her season best of 30.03. China’s Guo Qianqian got the gold with a season best of 29.50, while Iraq’s Fatimah Suwaed took the silver with a personal best time of 30.00.
The 25-year-old added another medal in the women’s 100m T35 event. She finished with a season-best of 14.33 s to take the silver. Qianqian once again takes away the gold medal with a time of 14.24s. This time Fatimah ended with a bronze medal, performing with a time of 14.39s.
3. Ekta Bhyan (one silver medal)
The para-club thrower took home just a single win, participating in the Women’s Club Throw F51 finals. She performed her season-best throw of 19.80 m to claim the silver medal. Ukraine’s Zoia Ovsii took the gold with a 24.03 m throw, while Ekaterina Potapova of the Russian Federation claimed the bronze with a throw of 18.60 m.
4. Deepthi Jeevanji (one silver medal)
Deepthi Jeevanji performed her season-best run of 55.16s in the Women’s 400 m T20 finals event. The Indian runner took home the silver medal. She was behind Turkey’s Aysel Onder, who won the gold after setting a world record of 54.51s. Ukraine’s Yuliia Shuliar ended with bronze with her season-best timing of 56.29s.
