A media release by the ICC stated, “Sidra was found to have breached Article 2.2 of the ICC Code of Conduct for Players and Player Support Personnel, which relates to ‘abuse of cricket equipment or clothing, ground equipment or fixtures and fittings during an International Match’.”

As per reports, the breach results in the offence of Article 2.2 of the ICC Code of Conduct for Players and Player Support Personnel. The article states “abuse of cricket equipment or clothing, ground equipment or fixtures and fittings during an international match.”

A Level 1 breach carries a minimum penalty of an official reprimand, a maximum penalty of 50% of a player’s match fee, or one or two demerit points. In this case Amin has been given a demerit point.

“In addition to this, one demerit point has been added to her disciplinary record, for whom it was the first offence in a 24-month period,” the ICC release also stated.

The on-field umpires Lauren Agenbag and Nimali Perera, and third umpire Kerrin Klaaste and fourth umpire Kim Cotton leveled the charge.

The main incident

The incident occurred in the second innings of the match when Pakistan was batting and trying to complete the run chase of 247. After losing both their openers in early wickets, coming at No. 3, Amin battled the powerplay single-handedly with her 81-run off 106-ball knock. Her innings gave Pakistan the needed kickstart. Natalia Pervaiz, 33, running off 46 balls, was a decent contribution.

It was in the 39.5 overs when India’s Sneh Rana bowled a flat and full ball on the leg stump and got her second wicket of the day. Frustrated by her dismissal, Amin forcefully hits her bat to the ground, which has led to her breach of the game’s code of conduct.

Later, Amin admitted her offence and accepted the charge by the match referee, Shandre Fritz, so no formal hearing was done.

“Sidra admitted the offence and accepted the sanction proposed by Shandré Fritz of the Emirates ICC International Panel of Match Referees, so there was no need for a formal hearing,” the ICC release also mentioned.

Pakistan Women were bowled out for 159 at the R. Premadasa Stadium on Sunday, losing by 88 runs. They will next face Australia Women in the ongoing ICC Women’s World Cup 2025 on October 8 in Colombo.
