PV Sindhu Scripts History with 500th Career Win, Enters Indonesia Masters Quarterfinals

On Thursday, January 22, India saw mixed results in the men’s and women’s singles events of the ongoing 2026 Indonesia Masters Super 500 held at the Istora Senayan. Ace shuttlers PV Sindhu and Lakshya Sen have made their entry into the quarterfinals of the women’s and men’s singles, respectively. For former world No 1 Kidambi Srikanth and emerging Anmol Kharb, it was a road to exit.

In the Round of 16 match, Sindhu defeated Denmark’s Line Kjaersfeldt by sets of 21-19, 21-18. This was Sindhu’s 500th career win in women’s singles. She is now the first Indian shuttler and sixth in the world to reach this milestone. In the quarterfinals match, scheduled on Friday, January 23, she will be joined by China’s Chen Yufei.

On the disappointing side, Kharb faced defeat against former world champion Nozomi Okuhara of Japan. After taking a stunning lead in the opening game by 21-16, her unforced errors lost the next two games by 14-21, 11-21.

Meanwhile, in the men’s singles category, Sen edged past Hong Kong’s Jason Gunawan. In their first encounter, Sen dominated Gunawan throughout the match to win by straight games in sets of 21-10, 21-11. He will next face Panitchaphon Teeraratsakul in the quarterfinals of the Indonesia Masters.

Elsewhere, former world No. 1 Srikanth lost his match against fourth-seeded Chou Tien Chen of Chinese Taipei by sets of 11-21, 10-21 in 32 minutes. On the other hand, the Indian men’s doubles pair of Hariharan Amsakarunan and MR Arjun also suffered defeat in their match against third-seeded Man Wei Chong and Kai Wun Tee of Malaysia by sets of 17-21, 21-9, 16-21.

Sindhu records 500th career win in women’s singles

With her victory in R16 of the ongoing Indonesia Masters 2026, Sindhu is now the first Indian shuttler to reach the mark of 500 career wins in the women’s singles category. Along with that, she has earned her spot in the quarterfinals of the tournament alongside men’s singles top player Lakshya Sen. Sindhu defeated Denmark’s Line Kjaersfeldt in the round of 16. The two have clashed earlier on six occasions, out of which Sindhu added her fifth win recently.

Only five shuttlers across the world have achieved this feat, and the double Olympic medalist is now one of them as the latest addition. The list includes names like Ratchanok Intanon (576), Tai Tzu Ying (570), Akane Yamaguchi (532), Carolina Marin (526), and Petya Nedelcheva. Sindhu’s total career wins are currently at 516.
