The Indian women’s team’s opening campaign at the 2026 Thomas and Uber Cup in Horsens, Denmark was a disappointment. On Friday, April 24, the women’s team lost to Denmark by 2-3. The result is posing a big threat to their Uber Cup contention but hopes still remain. Meanwhile, India’s men’s team came-from-behind and registered a 4-1 victory.

PV Sindhu got India off to a good start in the tie after securing her win over Line Christophersen. She defeated her sets of 21-13, 18-21, 21-17. On the other hand, Unnati Hooda lost her game to Line Kjaersfeldt and by sets of 12-21, 23-25. The loss resulted in an advantage for the hosts to equalize.
Meanwhile, the women’s doubles pair of Priya Kongengbam and Shruti Mishra were also defeated by sets of 17-21, 21-11, 21-23. 17-year-old Tanvi Sharma had set up a strong fight but got outplayed in the third women’s singles game by Amalie Schulz. The Indian lost by sets of 21-19, 16-21, 16-21.
In the final match of the ties, India’s pair of Sindhu and Tanisha Crasto claimed a point after their opponents retired midway resulting from an on-court injury. The Indian women’s team now have their task cut out to win both of their remaining games scheduled against Ukraine and China.
This is the last chance that the Indian women’s team can make it through and qualify for the knockouts.
