Two-time Olympic medalist badminton player PV Sindhu has been named as a member of the Badminton World Federation (BWF) Athletes’ Commission from the year 2026 to 2029. This will be her third consecutive term as a BWF member. The Indian shuttler has previously served during the 2017-21 term and as the Integrity Ambassador for the 2021-25 term.

A statement by BWF read, “Pusarla (PV Sindhu) is dedicated to creating an inclusive environment where every athlete – regardless of background or career stage – feels supported, respected and empowered to thrive.”
Besides Sindhu, two other Asian members of the BWF include the reigning women’s singles Olympic champion, An Se-young of the Republic of Korea. The other one is Paris 2024 Olympic women’s doubles gold medallist Jia Yifan of the People’s Republic of China. Unlike Sindhu, both of them have been appointed for the first time.
The other two members included in the list are Egypt’s Doha Hany and the Netherlands’ Debora Jille.
Through the election, the BWF Athletes’ Commission aims to provide a high-level platform for the badminton players to get represented beyond the court. The members will work as a consultative body under the BWF Council, working on matters like tournament regulations, player welfare, integrity, and the overall competitive environment.
The five players will have a direct channel that will help the Commission shape policies both on and off-court.
With the five members of the BWF Athletes Commission finalized, the next election follows that of the chairman and the deputy chairman. The Commission is, however, also planning to add a co-opted member to the group.
As of now the final five-member list of the BWF Athletes Commission includes-
P.V. Sindhu
An Se-young
Jia Yifan
Doha Hany
Debora Jille

Following the appointment, BWF President Khunying Patama Leeswadtrakul shared his views on the new beginnings.
“Athletes are the heart of our sport, and their voices must be central to every decision we make,” he said.
He also added, “The BWF Athletes’ Commission ensures that our global badminton community is shaped by those who live and breathe the game. Together, we’ll work to make badminton one of the world’s leading sports.”
Expressing his thanks to the five members, he stated, “We congratulate the new members and look forward to their contributions in shaping the future of badminton.”
