In the girls’ 54kg category, India’s Chandrika Pujari bagged a gold medal after defeating Uzbekistan’s Kumriniso Muhammadova in the finals game by a dominating victory of 5-0. The win gave India another impressive bout at the Asian Youth Games 2025 held in Bahrain.

Pujari began her campaign with a win over South Korea’s Choi via a referee-stopped contest (RSC), followed by her quarterfinals win against Japan’s Hatakeyama by 5-0. Later in the semi-finals, she defeated Kazakhstan’s Makhanova by another outclass win by 5-0.
Besides Pujari, Khushi Chand, and Ahaana Sharma also won big in their respective weight categories. Khushi brought the second gold medal in wrestling in the girls’ 46kg division after defeating China’s Luo Jinxiu by 4-1. Ahaana added the third gold medal bout with her win against Korea’s Ma Jong Hyang in the 50 kg category.
Other promising performances from female wrestlers came from Anshika in the 80kg who added the fourth gold in the girls’ section for India. Meanwhile, Harnoor Kaur secured a silver in the 66kg category.
As for the male wrestlers, Lanchenba Moibungkhongbam got a silver medal after falling short against Kazakhstan’s Nurmakhan in the boys’ 50kg finals match by 0-5. Anant Deshmukh got a bronze in the 66kg division.
As per reports from the Boxing Federation of India (BFI), India finished at no. 1 in the Girls’ Boxing category with four golds and one silver medal.
Prior to the Asian event, the male and female boxers were trained under a national coaching setup led by Vinod Kumar as the boys’ head coach and Jitender Raj Singh as head coach of the girls. The session, however, ended up being a success with impressive victories showcased by the Indian wrestlers on the global stage.
The training session was held at NS NIS Patiala, which focused on areas like skill refinement, working on improved techniques and tactics, and exposure to international events. All these factors have well contributed in maintaining the boxer’s adaptability and poise under pressure.
