On Saturday, December 13, 2025, Hobart Hurricanes clinched their maiden Women’s Big Bash League (WBBL) title after defeating Perth Scorchers by eight wickets at Hobart’s Ninja Stadium.

This was the Hurricanes’ first-ever qualification in the tournament finals. This edition is also the second to witness a first-time champion after Melbourne Renegades, who won their first in 2024. The highlight of the match was Lizelle Lee, who scored an unbeaten 77 runs off 44 balls and led the Hurricanes to their first WBBL title.
Earlier in the match, the Scorchers won the toss and elected to bat. The start was decent with average performance seen from the batting line-up. Opener Katie Mack (17 off 21) and Beth Mooney (33 off 26) added a total of 50 runs to the score. Captain Sophie Devine added 34 runs while other decent contributions came from batters Freya Kemp, who scored 10 runs off 8 balls, and Paige Scholfield added an unbeaten score of 27 runs off 22 balls.
At the end of the innings, Scorchers posted a score of 137/5 in 20 overs. Hurricanes’ bowlers were no less on their part. England spinner Linsey Smith took two wickets in just eight balls. Meanwhile, bowler Heather Graham claimed two wickets in 26 balls. One wicket was added by Lauren Smith, who took the first one.
On the other hand, for Hurricanes chasing a target of 138 was an easy one, with Lee taking over the dominance as the opening batter scored 10 boundaries and four sixes, adding to her impressive 77 not-out knock. With the majority of the work done by her, the remaining batters, however, did not have to do much.
Danni Wyatt-Hodge scored 16 runs off 15 balls while Nat-Sciver Brunt added 35 runs off 27 balls. The Hurricanes have only two wickets, with Nicola Carey remaining unbeaten at 6 runs off 4 balls. Scorchers were not very successful with the ball, with one wicket each claimed by bowlers Lilly Mills and Amy Edgar.
In the tournament table rankings, the Hurricanes finished in the top rank with 15 points. In the 10 matches played, they won seven and lost two. Meanwhile, the Scorchers were in No. 3 with 12 points, including six wins and four losses

We’ve dared to dream and I couldn’t be happier to say we’ve actually bloody done it. We’ve made it to Disneyland, we’ve gone all the way. To our entire group, all 16 players and support staff who have been a part of this journey.
“I’m so incredibly proud of this group and I just wanted to say a huge thank you for your work and sacrifice, plying into what it means to be a Hurricane. And I can’t bloody wait to celebrate tonight. Choo-choo baby!”
