On Friday, March 5, 2026, North Korea registered their second victory of the Group stage match of the ongoing AFC Women’s Asia Cup 2026.

The North Koreans defeated Bangladesh by a decisive score of 5-0 with midfielder Myong Yu-Jong scoring her fourth goal of the Women’s Asian Cup. The three-time Asian champions in the two matches played in the league have gone all-out scoring eight goals in total and got themselves the qualification spot for the quarterfinals.
Elsewhere, on Friday, the defending champions China played their match against Uzbekistan in the Group B fixture held in Sydney.
In the first-half, the Koreans took charge as Kim Kyong Yong and Myong scored the first two goals for the team to give the lead at 2-0. Both goals were scored right after getting two of their previous goals overturned through video replays. Myong scored the goal through a penalty shot after Bangladesh’s Afida Khandaker was given a yellow card for a foul.
Going into the second-half, Korea added another as Kim scored her second goal of the match after receiving the ball from Chae Un Yong who passed the shot from close range and scored it in the centre of the net. The Koreans finished the game in 90 minutes with the final scoring coming from Kim.
In their opening group match played on Tuesday, March 3, midfielder Myong scored her first-half hat trick of the tournament for the team that defeated Uzbekistan by 3-0. The same day, China had beaten Bangladesh by a score of 2-0. The North Koreans have their final match of the Group B stage on Monday, Match 9 against China, whereas Bangladesh will battle Uzbekistan.
Meanwhile, only the top two teams and two third seeds from each of the three groups of the AFC Women’s Asia Cup 2026 will move into the quarterfinals.
In Group A, hosts Australia, and South Korea are already the top two seeds. Australia had defeated Iran in their tournament opener by 4-0, while South Korea beated Philippines by 3-0. The top two seeds will clash against each other in Sydney on Sunday, March 8. Meanwhile, Iran, which suffered a major loss in the first two games, needs a win when they next face the Philippines on Sunday.
Meanwhile, in Group C, Western Australia, Vietnam will play against Chinese Taipei, while Japan will take on India on Saturday, March 7, at Perth. If Japan and Vietnam win the match, they will secure their place in the quarterfinals. On Wednesday, March 3, Japan defeated Taiwan by 2-0 and Vietnam defeated India by 2-1.
