Lynda Kom Serto is one of the emerging young forwards in Indian women’s football. Known for her pace, attacking instincts, and goal-scoring ability, the Manipuri footballer has steadily progressed from grassroots football in her village to representing the India women’s national team. Her journey reflects the strong football culture of Manipur, a state that has produced many prominent players in Indian women’s football.
Lynda Kom Serto was born on 28 February 2005 in Khoirentak Khunou village in Manipur. She grew up in a modest family environment where her father worked as a farmer while her mother ran a small stationery shop. As the youngest of four children, Lynda developed a competitive spirit early in life. Her introduction to football came informally, playing matches with boys at a nearby ground close to her home.
Despite initial hesitation from her father, she continued to pursue the sport and gradually proved her ability on the field. Her determination eventually earned her selection to the Sports Authority of India (SAI) Training Centre in Imphal, where she received structured coaching and training that helped shape her football career.
Lynda first gained national attention through youth international tournaments. In 2017, she represented India at the SAFF U-15 Women’s Championship in Bangladesh, marking her first appearance in an international competition. She later participated in the AFC U-16 Women’s Championship Qualifiers, where she gained valuable experience competing against teams from across Asia.
Her breakthrough moment came during the 2019 Junior Girls’ National Football Championship held in Kolhapur, where she delivered an impressive performance representing Manipur. Her performances helped her earn a place in India’s U-17 national team setup, which was preparing for the FIFA U-17 Women’s World Cup. During the tournament, Lynda scored six goals and won the Golden Boot, highlighting her potential as one of the most promising young forwards in the country.
At the domestic level, Lynda Kom Serto has competed in the Indian Women’s League (IWL), India’s top division of women’s football. She currently plays for Sethu FC, one of the prominent clubs in the Indian women’s football structure. The club has consistently been among the strongest teams in the IWL and has played a key role in developing several Indian national team players.
Through her involvement in the league, Lynda has gained experience competing against some of the best players in the country. Playing at this level has allowed her to refine her technical skills, improve her tactical understanding, and develop the physical strength required at the professional level.
Lynda Kom Serto made her senior debut for the India women’s national team in 2024, marking an important milestone in her career. One of her most notable early performances came in December 2024, when she scored four goals against Maldives in a friendly match held at the Padukone–Dravid Centre for Sports Excellence in Bengaluru. The match ended in a dominant 14-0 victory for India, and her performance demonstrated her ability to make an immediate impact at the international level.
She later scored another international goal against Timor-Leste during the 2026 AFC Women’s Asian Cup qualification tournament. As of March 2026, Lynda has made 12 appearances for the Indian national team and scored 5 goals, establishing herself as one of the young attacking options in the squad.
