Over the years, Guguloth has built a reputation as a versatile footballer capable of influencing the game through creativity, energy, and timely goals. Her journey, from a small village in Telangana to playing in European football and representing India internationally; highlights the growing reach of women’s football across the country.
Soumya Guguloth was born on 18 July 2001 in Kunepally village, located in the Nizamabad district of Telangana. Growing up in a rural setting, she developed a passion for football at a young age, often playing with local boys in her community. Despite limited resources and infrastructure for women’s football in her region, Soumya remained committed to the sport. Her talent and determination soon helped her move beyond grassroots competitions and into structured football pathways.
She began representing India at youth level during her teenage years, which marked the beginning of her journey in international football. Her performances with the youth teams helped establish her as a talented midfielder capable of contributing both defensively and offensively. These early international experiences helped her develop the tactical awareness and composure required at the senior level.
While playing for Kenkre in the Indian Women’s League, she delivered strong performances and scored several goals, demonstrating her ability to contribute offensively from midfield. During this period, she also helped the club win the WIFA Women’s Football League (2019–20). In 2021, Soumya signed for Gokulam Kerala FC Women, one of the top teams in Indian women’s football.
She played an important role in the 2021–22 Indian Women’s League (IWL) season, helping the club secure the championship title. During her time at Gokulam Kerala, she also competed in the AFC Women’s Club Championship, where the team finished third in the tournament. Her performances with the club established her as one of the rising midfield talents in Indian football.
In 2022, Soumya Guguloth received an opportunity to train and trial with the Croatian club ŽNK Dinamo Zagreb Women. Following successful trials, she signed for the club and became one of the few Indian women footballers to play in European leagues. She made her Croatian Women’s League debut on 20 November 2022. In March 2023, she scored her first goal for Dinamo Zagreb during a Croatian Women’s Football Cup match, contributing to the team’s run to the cup final.
Her time in Europe provided valuable exposure to international playing styles and higher levels of competition. With East Bengal, she continued to perform consistently in the Indian Women’s League (IWL), helping the club win the 2024-25 IWL title. Her leadership and midfield control have been key factors in the team’s success.
Soumya Guguloth made her senior debut for the Indian women’s national team on 8 April 2021 in an international friendly against Uzbekistan women’s national football team. She scored her first international goal during the 2022 SAFF Women’s Championship in Nepal against Pakistan women’s national football team, helping India secure a 3-0 victory.
