Futbol Club Barcelona Femení, commonly known as Barça Femení, is a Spanish professional women’s football club based in Barcelona, Catalonia. The club is the women’s section of FC Barcelona.
The club was formed in 1970 with only some financial and logistical support from FC Barcelona; however, they weren’t an official section of the club. The club was originally known as Selecció Ciutat de Barcelona before taking the name Peña Femenina Barcelonista in 1971.
After women’s football was recognised in Spain, the team was known as Club Femení Barcelona from 1983 to 2002, when it officially became part of FC Barcelona and took the official name Futbol Club Barcelona.
