Indian women sports personalities decided to step away from their respective fields for some time to take up a fitness challenge. Two-time Olympic medalist PV Sindhu and India Women’s cricket team skipper Harmanpreet Kaur came together for a fitness event in Bengaluru. Sports brands PUMA and HYROX together brought a first-ever race format to the city, featuring both personalities.

It is a global fitness race that combines functional workouts and endurance running, featuring eight rounds of 1 km run +1 workout station. The challenge is open to all athletes across different events, be it elite personalities or everyday gym-goers. Both Sindhu and Kaur are brand ambassadors for PUMA and have competed in a mixed relay format. They took on eight 1 km runs along with eight functional workout stations, including sledge push and rowing.
This Bengaluru event saw over 8200 participants across categories, which resulted in a great success for HYROX. The concept was introduced in India last year, with events held in Mumbai and Delhi, with around 7,000 participants involved. Sindhu shared her experiences at the event and credited Kaur’s cheering skills that allowed her to push more and result in good results.
“Badminton has always been my world – but HYROX is completely different. There is no opponent across the net, just you, the clock, and eight stations that test everything at once. I would pretend it was easy. But that is exactly what drew me to it. Harmanpreet Kaur cheered me on and brought an energy that pushed me harder. As athletes, we are always looking for the thing that makes us better at what we do,” Sindhu said.
Meanwhile, World Cup-winning team captain Kaur heaped praise on Sindhu and shared that their experience together was a success and tested the bond between the two. Kaur said, “I lead a team each time I step onto a cricket field, but watching Sindhu take on the challenge was a unique experience.
We come from very different sporting disciplines, with very different training worlds, and watching her compete at the highest level was incredible to witness. HYROX tests you in ways your own sport does not always prepare you for.”
