On Saturday, March 28, the final day of the USD 100,000 WTT Contender Tunis 2026, India’s campaign ended on a mixed note. They finished the campaign with one medal in the mixed doubles event. No medals were achieved in either the singles or doubles event. The mixed doubles pair of Diya Chitale and Manush Shah ended their campaign with a runner-up medal.

In the women’s singles event, India’s Yashaswini Ghorpade lost to top seed Joo Cheonhui in straight sets by 8-11, 10-12, 8-11. Meanwhile, qualifier Sutirtha Mukherjee was defeated by Maria Xiao in the second round by sets of 11-13, 11-13, 9-11. Earlier, Chaitale was defeated by Xiao in straight sets.

On the other hand, in the women’s doubles, two Indian pairs had advanced into the semifinals. Top seeds Chitale and Ghorpade lost to the duo of Elizabet Abraamian-Maria Panfilova in a five-set match by 7-11, 10-12, 12-10, 13-11, 5-11. Meanwhile, the other Indian pair of Syndrela Das and Sutirtha Mukherjee — were defeated by Japan’s Misuzu Takeya and Yuka Kaneyoshi in straight sets of 7-11, 7-11, 8-11.

India’s men’s singles player sixth seed Shah lost to wildcard Joao Geraldo by sets of 8-11, 2-11, 8-11 in the quarterfinal. He had earned his spot after defeating Harmeet Desai in the second round by 6-11, 7-11, 11-9, 11-3, 11-9. Meanwhile, Shehit Suravajjula and Payas Jain were knocked out in the first round.

India showcases great form in mixed doubles

The Indian mixed doubles pair of Chaitale and Shah ended their run as runners-up. The top seeds lost their finals match to the second seeds duo of Alvaro Robles and Maria Xiao of Spain by 1-3 and in sets of 9-11, 13-11, 10-12, 5-11.

Shah and Chaitale played a hard-fought battle against the Spanish duo. The World No. 6 pair maintained their dominance at the end of the second game and saved two game points to win the set and level the match. They maintained that momentum into the third game, but the Spanish opponent ultimately took the upper hand.

Elsewhere, India’s men’s doubles pair of Desia had advanced to the finals. They won the semifinals in an All-India battle against Snehit Suravajjula and Akash Pal by sets of 9-11, 5-11, 11-7, 11-5, 11-8. Meanwhile, third seeds duo of Payas Jain and Ankur Bhattacharjee had lost their second round match to the pair of Snehit-Akash by sets of 6-11, 11-8, 11-9, 11-13, 9-11).
