Emma Raducanu is set to begin her ad hoc coaching with former British No. 1 Mark Petchey this week ahead of the Indian Wells event. But sources say that Petchey will not be available unlike last year. The female Britisher who recently parted with her Australia Open 2026 coach Francis Roig has had no coaching besides hitting the nets with 27-year-old Alexis Canter.

Raducanu and Petchey reportedly worked in Miami last year post the Indian Wells and decided against an extended trial period with the Slovakian coach Vlado Platenik. Petchey guided Raducanu during the clay-court season then followed by Wimbledon. During that period Raducanu had held a record of 15-8. She then went on to add 13 more victories and 14 defeats.

Petchey is currently under a long-term broadcasting deal with the Tennis Channel and TNT Sports. During the time of Wimbledon and the US Open he won’t be working in the TV studios. Last year, Petchey was absent in Raducanu’s first-round match with Wang Xinyu at the French Open, because of his broadcasting duties.

Raducanu, who had recently commented on not looking for a coach, will require technical and tactical assistance for the upcoming major tournaments. If not Petchey, she is likely to take help from Lawn Tennis Association’s technical guru, Louis Cayer.

Raducanu’s 2026 season hasn’t been her best. She faced a second-round defeat to Anastasia Potapova at the Australian Open. During the post-match press interview, Raducanu shared with the reporters that was not happy with her form. She will, however, try to bring her aggressive style this time that she had during her early days.

“I just want to hit the ball to the corners and hard. I need to just work on playing in a way more similar to how I was playing when I was younger. I always just changed direction, took the ball early, and went for it,” she mentioned.
