Polish Player Iga Swiatek is the Fastest to 300 WTA Wins, Second Only to Serena Williams
Iga Swiatek, currently the World No. 3 and reigning Wimbledon champion, continues her dominant stride after reaching a remarkable milestone in what might have seemed a routine win at the Cincinnati Open 2025.
On Saturday, Swiatek secured her 300th career win at the WTA Tour level (excluding the Billie Jean King Cup), defeating Russia’s Anastasia Potapova 6-1, 6-4 in the second round of the Cincinnati Open. The victory was special as it placed her in the same conversation as Serena Williams, one of the greatest tennis players of all time.

Second Only to Serena Williams
Swiatek reached the 300-wins milestone in the fewest matches since Serena Williams hit the same landmark nearly two decades ago in 2006 at the Cincinnati Open. The 24-year-old achieved the feat in 372 matches, second only to Williams, who took 360 matches for the same.
Career Achievements and Records
Swiatek’s excellence extends beyond this milestone. She has six Grand Slam titles to her name, including four French Open titles, her recent Wimbledon victory in July, and a US Open title. She has also held the World No. 1 ranking for a total of 125 weeks — all at the age of just 24.
Swiatek has been dominant in WTA 1000 events, winning at least 20 matches in each of the last four seasons at this level — a feat no other female player has achieved during this period. She has also won her opening match in 29 consecutive WTA 1000 tournaments, tying Monica Seles’ record and trailing only Martina Hingis’ all-time best of 39.
Strong Cincinnati Record, Yet to Win
Swiatek’s performance at Cincinnati has been strong in recent years, with semi-final finishes in both 2023 and 2024. However, she has yet to reach the final and lift the trophy at this prestigious tournament.
After beating Potapova, Swiatek will face Ukraine’s Marta Kostyuk in the round of 32. Kostyuk has failed to win a set against Swiatek in their last three meetings, and Swiatek will be looking to build on that record.
Swiatek’s Reflection on the Win
Reflecting on her recent victory against Potapova, Swiatek said, “I really wanted to be solid but pretty intense on the other hand. It was a bit up and down in the second set, but in important moments, I got my level up and I could close it. The first match of any tournament is always tricky. I’m happy I’m going to have a chance to play another one here.”
Return to Top Form After 2024 Challenges
Swiatek’s rise has not been without challenges. She made a spectacular return after a difficult 2024 season by winning Wimbledon 2025, including a dominant 6-0, 6-0 victory in the final against Amanda Anisimova. Since then, she has won 10 of her last 11 matches, signalling her return to top form.
Eyeing Cincinnati Glory and the US Open
Swiatek will be aiming for her first final and title at the Cincinnati Open — one of the only major tournaments, alongside the Canadian Open, where she is yet to reach the final. With the US Open fast approaching, she will look to sustain her strong form and carry her momentum into New York.
