Kamalini, one of the youngest players in the Mumbai’s squad at just 17, has been ruled out due to an unspecified injury. She featured in all five matches for the franchise this season, scoring 75 runs, including the highest score of 32 in the season opener against Royal Challengers Bengaluru. Her absence leaves Mumbai Indians with Rahila Firdous as the only recognised wicketkeeper in the lineup.

Vaishnavi Sharma, 20, joins the two-time WPL champions for a fee of INR 30 lakh. The left-arm spinner brings impressive credentials, having been part of India’s ICC U19 Women’s T20 World Cup winning squad in 2025. Since then, she has taken significant strides at the senior level, making her India debut in the recent five-match T20I series against Sri Lanka, where she picked up five wickets.

The youngster has also earned a call-up to the Indian ODI squad for the upcoming Australia tour, scheduled after the conclusion of the WPL. Despite her rapid rise, Vaishnavi had gone unsold at the WPL 2026 mega auction, which took place before her international debut, making her inclusion a timely reinforcement for Mumbai Indians.

Currently placed second on the WPL 2026 points table, Mumbai Indians have registered two wins from five matches and will look to Vaishnavi’s spin option to strengthen their bowling attack as the tournament heads into its crucial phase.
