Sri Lanka Women’s team started the innings on a slow edge as they lost their opener Sanjana Kavindi (7 off 6), in the third over. However, skipper Anushka Sanjeewani scored 39 runs off 31 balls, while Hansima Karunaratne added 22 off 27. The only fifty of the match was scored by Ama Kanchana (52 runs off 29 balls). Other additions came from Shayani Senaratne (21* off 16) and Malsha Shehani (14 off 7).

Nur Dania Syuhada, Mas Elysa, and Amalin Sorfina were the only wicket takers from Malaysia’s bowling line-up. The struggle, however, did not end there as the Malaysians got defeated in the run chase at 66/8. The batting line-up did not perform upto the mark with a high score going at 19 runs only.

Openers Ainna Hamizah Hashim (3 off 11) and Wan Julia (4 off 4) were out in the powerplay, and coming in next, Nazatul Hidayah Husna Binti Razali added 14 runs off 18 balls. Meanwhile, the team suffered the exit of skipper Elysa (3 off 11) and Mahirah Izzati Ismail (2 off 7). However, Nur Izzatul Syafiqa somehow managed to add 19 runs to the score.

The batters coming in next went into downfall as they added only 21 runs to the target, failing against the dominating bowling line-up of the Sri Lankans. Sathya Sandeepani and Sachin Nisansala picked up two wickets each, while Shashini Gimhani and Malsha added one each. Two of the wickets were achieved through run outs of Malaysian batters Julia and Ismail.

Both teams have one more match left before moving into the semifinal. Only the top teams from both Group A and B will qualify to play the Women’s Asia Cup Rising Stars semifinals. While Sri Lanka A Women’s team will play Thailand Women’s team, Malaysia will compete against Bangladesh A Women’s team in the final Group B matches scheduled on February 18 in Bangkok.
