Keating will reunite with head coach Gareth Taylor, with whom she worked at City. She is Liverpool’s fourth signing of the summer.

“I think everyone knows Liverpool worldwide. It’s such a big club, and I think the women’s team is striving for greatness,” Keating told Liverpoolfc.com during her first interview at the AXA Melwood Training Centre.

“I think the style of football that they play, they actually try to play – which suits me and my position.

“I think they’re just going in the right direction and [it is] a project that I want to be part of.”

In June, the BBC had reported that Keating had turned down a contract extension offer at City amid offers from Liverpool. The 22-year-old is a graduate of Manchester City and helped them win a second Women’s Super League title last season.

At Man City, Keating had to compete with Japan’s Yamashita for their number one shirt last season and only started four WSL games as they also went on to win the Women’s FA Cup.

She is still considered to be one of England’s best young goalkeepers and was called up by England’s manager, Sarina Weigman, for the crucial Women’s World Cup qualifying matches against Spain and Ukraine in June, but unfortunately missed out due to a concussion. She was a part of the squad that won the 2025 Euros.

Keating made her senior debut in October 2025, during a friendly 2-1 defeat against Brazil. By doing so, Keating became the first black woman goalkeeper to play for England at a senior level. After her debut, she was awarded the legacy number 236.

Gareth Taylor had given Keating her WSL debut and oversaw her breakout campaign in 2023-24. During that season, when she was only 19, Keating became the youngest goalkeeper to win the WSL Golden Glove award, for keeping 9 clean sheets.

The 22-year-old had previous short loan spells at AFC Fylde and Coventry United, also has Women’s Champions League experience.

“The start of my career has been nothing but amazing. I’ve gained platforms and done brilliantly so far. But I needed that missing [piece of the] puzzle,” she added.

“I think Liverpool can be that – somewhere I’m playing week-in, week-out and I’m getting good game time, to play with a good team and win trophies.”
