Lalremsiami was born in Kolasib, Mizoram, about 80 km from Aizawl, into a family of agriculturists. At the age of 11, Lalremsiami joined a government-run hockey academy in Thenzawl, Mizoram, where her talent quickly stood out. In 2016, she moved to New Delhi to train at the National Hockey Academy, where she faced challenges adapting to a new environment and language. With support from teammates, she learned Hindi and became popularly known by her nickname “Siami.”
Lalremsiami first represented India at the U-18 Asia Cup in 2016 and soon caught the attention of selectors. She later played in the Youth Olympic Games qualifiers, scoring seven goals in five matches. At the 2018 Youth Olympic Games in Buenos Aires, she helped India win a silver medal in the Hockey5s format, scoring nine goals in the tournament, including multiple braces against teams such as Austria, Uruguay, and Vanuatu.
Lalremsiami made her senior international debut in 2017 during India’s tour of Europe. Later that year, she was part of the Indian team that won the Asia Cup 2017, ending a 13-year title drought for India. In 2018, she emerged as one of the most promising young players in Indian women’s hockey: 2018 Women’s Hockey World Cup (London) – Youngest player in the Indian squad, Scored her first World Cup goal against Italy in the crossover match.
At the 2018 Asian Games in Jakarta, Lalremsiami scored four goals, including a hat-trick against Kazakhstan, helping India win the silver medal. This achievement made her the first sportsperson from Mizoram to win an Asian Games medal.
Lalremsiami represented India at the Tokyo Olympics 2020 (held in 2021), becoming the first female athlete from Mizoram to compete in the Olympic Games. India finished fourth, their best-ever Olympic result in women’s hockey, marking a historic milestone for the team.
