Two-time Olympic medallist PV Sindhu has acknowledged India’s men’s shuttler Ayush Shetty while calling him a generational talent. The praise comes after Shetty secured his spot in the men’s singles final game at the ongoing 2026 Badminton Asia Championships. On Saturday, April 11, he defeated World No. 1 Kunlavut Vitidsarn in the semifinals. He edged past over four high-ranked players in the tournament, while losing in a single game.

The Indian women’s ace shuttler shared a heartfelt post on her social media, crediting her brilliance in the sport.
She wrote, “I have consistently maintained that he is a generational talent. In terms of pure natural ability, he stands right up there with the very best young players I have come across. There is a prodigious level of talent in him, and it is something you immediately recognise when you see him on court.”
20-year-old Shetty and Sindhu have been training under the same coach Irwansyah. Sharing her experience of training with Shetty, Sindhu credited him for his on-court presence.
“He has been training in my training group for the past three weeks along with coach Irwan, and this period has only reinforced my belief in his potential. Physically he has a strong presence on court,” she also mentioned.
She also applauded his mindset during training sessions and mentioned that he is progressing well with the team.
“What has been particularly encouraging over these last three weeks is his attitude. He has trained with great seriousness alongside me, Coach Irwan, and the extended team, and the early signs of progress are already beginning to show,” she added.
The Olympian also believes that Shetty’s height gives him an added advantage in the game and that he can put his opponents under pressure. She further highlighted his defensive skills and mentioned that he is very low, reads the shuttle well, and can perform under pressure.
The 20-year-old Indian who is currently ranked World No. 25 has secured a silver medal at the Badminton Asia Championships 2026. On Sunday, April 12, in the men’s singles finals, he lost to world champion Shi Yuqi in Ningbo, China, by sets of 21-8, 21-10.
